The theme is falling off

It is a mystery to me. Since I upgraded this Wordpressblog successfully, I have not been able to keep the theme on. I have tried a couple of different themes, and same result. I choose a theme, upload it, and choose it in my control panel. Looks fine - but maybe next day - gone and back to default theme.

I don´t particularly like this theme with the grey header - but it is not my choise. And it has some bad effect on my interest in writing on this English blog besides my Danish blog , as long as the theme is so unstable - and boring.

I seeked advice in forums, followed some of the advise and did a few fixes, but only to get the same result - theme fallen off.

A friend of mine, who is as close to an Wordpress expert as you can get - has suddenly got the same problem with a clients blog. And now we are both puzzled - but I think getting close to a solution….the host - the server.

I have to talk to Godaddy, who is my host of this blog, about the matter. My friends host is a different one, though.

My only problem is, that if the problem is with the host, what do I do, if they can´t fix it? Do I have to live with the default theme? Do I have to move to another host?

We´ll see. I´ll call Godaddy one of these days, but if  you have any solutions, just let me know.

  1. Well, this is very interesting to know. I’ve been having this problem with Podcasting Underground for several weeks. I thought it was my host, Globat, that was screwing things up.

Now that I know that others are having trouble with it, too, I’ll have to look into it some more. I’ll let you know if I figure anything out.

  2. Good to have equals, Jason - I do have a feeling it is a serverproblem combined with compatability with the themes. April 6th we have a Wordpress meetup here in Copenhagen, and those of us who have the same issue will dive into it.

Unless you or others have solved it already - and maybe upgrade 2.5 does the trick.

    Have my doubts, though.

  3. Hi Karin,
at least the standard WP theme has a functions.php too. Try to edit it that your design values are the new standard.

As long as there is a default design, something or someone is able to reset the values, e.g. by calling the options.php.

I wonder if this issue occurs on themes without the functions.php …

Did you check your logfiles for any strange visitors? There is actually a bot or a hacker going ’round the web, only calling one file that resets the theme. Compare the time of the reset with the server logs.

Nevertheless, it seems all solutions don’t cure the desease, as long as WP contains such a bug.
