Podcasters in danger of competing about listeners
Will we as podcasters end up competing and maybe even fighting to get more listeners? Sallie Goetsch from Podcast Asylum, thinks this is a risk, if we don´t find ways to get more people to listen to podcasts.
As a warmup for The NewMediaExpo in Ontario, California, I am spending my day at the PodcampSoCal. Speaking myself later on, but listening to other podcasters and saying hi to fellow attendees as they come in getting ready for the EXPO tomorrow.
Sallie spoke for a lot of us as she told us about her Podcast Asylum for people who are crazy about podcasts, listen to a lot of them and even, goes for most people here, produce them ourselves. But not everyone else outside this Convention Center shares our passion.
Sallie asked the room - who here wants more listeners? Hands in the air everywhere. So Sallie suggests to follow her example - it worked on her mother and the rest of the family, who are not so tech-savvy:
Copy podcasts, they might be interested in, to cd´s and hand them out. They can play them in their car or at home, and do we really care, if people listen on iPods or cell phones or what not?
You are right, Sallie, it is important to spread the word, the virus, the bug, the addiction and get more listeners/viewers in stead of more podcasters. I imagine the curve crossing one day, so we are more people podcasting than listening to podcasts.
