Never leave your house without it

Not a day goes by without some new social media or social software pops up.
Don´t fret. Get educated. Start here, it says in the foreword of the little Social Media Survival Guide that I was handed at the Podcasting and Newmedia EXPO last month. I visited the OneUpWeb booth in the expo hall. What a great gift.
I consider myself a social media savvy, but still there are quite a few words in the guide, I have not heard before, and it makes me think it is best not to leave the house or the real world without a guide like this.
Now take for instance:
Adverblog - short for advertising blog - a blog used for advertising purposes
Blegging - Derived from “blog” and “beg” and means to send a query through the blogosphere in search of an answer
Clodpasting - A lame attempt to use online audio programming to launch a career into show business
Flog - A fake blog, frequently created by an agency to look as if it were created by consumers
Lilypod - A derogatory term describing a podcast that doesn’t provide the audience with meaningful information
Netroots - political activism organized through blogs and other online media
USM - Universal Subscription Mechanism. Allows certain podcatchers to automatically add a subscription from an RSS file
and more…
You can download the guide here.
Karin– Thank you so much for your kind words regarding our Social Media Survival Guide. As you may have noticed, we also have one on SEO and will be releasing a blogging-specific guide shortly. In ‘08, we’ll be publishing a number of industry specific online marketing guides. So please visit our site — and read on!
Best,
Scott
“Flog” already has two meanings (to beat, and to sell) and now it has a third… nice!
